DATABASE WIPE & LINUX USERS
Due to issues that have arisen over the course of the last month of beta testing - the SRD, Adlash's relentless assault on the trades system and various other bugs- I am going to need to perform a core DB wipe. With all the garbage information that has been puked into them, there is simply no way for me to straighten it out, except light it on fire and move on.
If you have anything precious stored on your Horses, Pack Animals or inside of the Inn or Bank Storage systems, remove these items today. The DBs will be wiped in exactly 6 hours from the time of this writing.
This was something I was hoping would never have to happen, but when the PvP statistics recognized DM possessed critters as players... I knew this time was coming.
What will happen is - Your PCID - a unique code assigned to each character - will be reset; this will break your faction, your storage (other than the packs you have in your inventory) and your persistent stats. On the plus side, you will recover all of your lost lives...
Something else came to my attention that I had NO IDEA about...
I posted this to the bioboards in search of an answer to this and here is the response I got -
It seems that three of the haks I use are not compatible for linux users... They just do not load for them and can cause them other issues... This is because of the way they are named. Cavern Moss, Cavern Snow, Cavern Volcano... these three haks are named in the upper case and possess spaces in their names. To remedy this and not exclude any of members of the NWCommunity, I am uploading a new tileset package that reflects these changes for all future CAP Citizens and a patch for the three tilesets ... OR Even better, you can take care of this update yourself without the need to download anything. Locate the three haks - Cavern Moss, Cavern Snow, Cavern Volcano and renaming them cavern_moss, cavern_snow, cavern_volcano respectively.
This change will go live at the same time I wipe the core DB.

In order for linux to know these modules are there, they either have to be loaded by the server surrounded with "". Cavern moss was one of them, all three started with cavern. Anyway, I know there are a lot more nwn players that only play on linux than most people realize, and so you would be cutting yourself out of possible attracting them if they can't play

NWCommunty Member wrote:Cat is kinda out of the bag on this one... to have a linux client friendly hak requires that it doesn't use spaces in it's name. To be real friendly to the linux client it should be all lower case, a great deal of them aren't but if you run the linux client your used to renaming them or adding a system link with a lower case file name pointing to the .hak in question.
Without seeing the error the client generates anything I might suggest would just be a guess. There might be a hacky way to get the client to load them, but the real solution is to do something with the hak name or as user of the linux client myself you'll find most of us just chuckle to ourself and move on to another server.

Re: State of Development
Server Online - Server Updated to include what I discussed below, plus a number of other things - more area work, some code optimization, some other stuff... didn't keep a list going, but yeh... A lot of stuff has certainly been done today and MAN I'm havin' a nap
Re: State of Development
Updates: the loot system, trades and many other systems have been tweaked and or fixed, the Hyola caverns are good to go. Took me a lot longer to pound those out than I had originally intended. The bindstones have been fixed. Skinnable animals have likewise been fixed, meaning the corpses will now fade when you skin them...
Elkor Adlish and Sapr0phyt3 have been promoted to the lofty rank of scholar for their superlative contributions to the CAP Wiki
I have begun working with Vuldrick of the NWVault to bring an update to his random quest system - which is a lot of fun to play with even in the demo mod - and incorporate it into the CAP. A 'raw' version of this system is already in the CAP and you can find the 'task master' within the Citerior adventurer's guild.
Thats about all fer the nunce, more to come. Its monday tomorrow... which really sucks...

Re: State of Development
UPDATE as of the next server update, there is a new rule for disarm... PCs will no longer drop their weapons to the ground, instead they will only be knocked outta their hand and back into their inventory. There are a few other things, but I'll leave those for you to discover.
Re: State of Development
Server offline, while I do some quick updates - Including a fix to petrification to make it a temporary effect, adding the option to bounties to allow you to share with your party members, a few minor tweaks to the loot distribution (fixing it so gloves/guantlets are named correctly) and killing one more miscreant SRD item discovered hidden away.
Adlash (as Denard) and myself (as Rikken) attempted the Hyola caverns and were quite thoroughly thwarted! Good times.

Re: State of Development
SERVER ONLINE... a few updates are in there, fixed a couple of graphical errors Adlash spotted, adjusted a couple of critters, lots and lots of area work has been done in the last couple of days... Been writing out a couple quests, so there are those to look forward to. Still need to finish a couple of the quests... I'm about four or five days from a lay off for the winter and once that goes through ladies and gentlemen... Whoot! I'll be putting in some serious time into the development of major plot lines and long distance quests and getting the CAP outta beta. With few and fewer glitches reported in the trades and other systems, its all starting to look very shiny.
Anyhoo off to work for at least a cup of coffee and a laugh with muh boys. Have a good day.

Re: State of Development
Server Updates :: fixed the reported bugs, which caused me to re-examine my loot system, performed some changes and optimizations... We'll see how this plays out. Improved Bandages slightly. Should heal a bit more than they have been and now they will... These changes will go live on the next reload, which I will hold off until the server is empty.
Re: State of Development
Server back online... And updated... seems the forums ate my post about me taking it off line, for a server reboot and windows update...
Re: State of Development
Server Updated: fixed a number of minor issues that you, dear citizen may or may not have even noticed; tweaked the loot script again, not to increase the frequency of drops but to increase the number of possible items that could potentially be dropped. As this is my first actual weekend in about a month, work shall continue through out the day.
Re: State of Development
Server Updated:: fixed the reported bugs, added a new tool to the Perdition Jeweler for Adlash to play with . Tweaking of the loot continues - I appreciate your feedback in this matter. While I don't want to revert back to the Monty Hall glut of salient items that first appeared, I do want randomly generated magical items to appear and will continue to tweak until they do appear, at least infrequently.
Added a new quest, more to come and the 'dead end' quests are still being looked at, just waiting for the inspiration.
While I am not quite laid off yet, I do have more time to develop the CAP and will be working on it as much as I can - interrupted only by afternoon naps, coffee, movies, food and booty calls from my neighbor
