The Assasins Guild done me wrong

Last night while we were playing Peri went to the assassins guild in Fellhurst and
ordered an abduction of Raith Mathom. Next thing I knew she was standing
naked in a cell in the basement while someone shot arrows at her. So then,
just to see what would happen she put an exterminate order in on Raith. Nothing
was seeming to happen, so she walked outside, the "bouncer" at the door said
"Raith Mathom sends his regards" and pummeled her into the ground....lol

So I think there might be a subject vs. object issue, unless its designed to
make people who put out hits feel the pain themselves...

Also, an idea for future development of the guild would be the ability for an
assassin like Peri to be able to pick up contracts and perform them.

I still say that was the best money Raith ever "spent" !!

to be honest, looking into the code I dont see anything at all wrong...

BUT

let me explain.
I myself put a abduction hit on you the other day
and I know of another that also put an assasinate attempt on you (what can i say we are all evil here...lol)

so MY GUESS is that when you went to get your own 'hit'
you triggered the invisible trigger for abductions that are right in front of the main guy you talk to for these 'hits'
(they are also scattered alllllll overthe place) so that ported you naked to the abduction zone

THEN when you escaped and left the building you triggered the 'Assasinate trigger' which one can be found Just outside the building near the portal.(again these are scattered all over the place)..the assasin looks just like the guy standing at the entrance doors to assassins guild so I can see why you thought it was 'him' that pummeled you.

now sorry but I find this hysterical! lol....
BUT I did remove the triggers from within the assassins guild and removed them just outside of it so 'things like that don't happen again'


but , that was an awesome coincidence.

and I absolutely love the idea of an assassin being able to perform duties.

but now I ask,
how should it be implemented

easiest would be
IF your an assassin you can choose from a list of 'contracts' that have been put out and thats that.

not so easy but better implemented.
you can join a assassins GUILD first and then your 'GIVEN' assignments through your mailbox whenever someone comes talking to the guild and requires an extermination.

which do you think would be the coolest? (dont worry about easy vs difficult implementation)
what other avenues could we explore with this?
do they have a certain amount of time to finish the deed or else the mission is given to someone else?
can more then one be assigned the same hit? first one to complete is the winner and gets apoint in a rank or something?
lets brainstorm cause I think this idea has alot to explore!

Ahhh... so you're saying there was already an abduction and a hit out on Borojb's toon when he placed the ones on mine and the triggers caused it to happen to his toon first?

Do the contracts last in between sessions... i.e can I expect to whacked at any time?

That is correct.

someone (me) already had him set up for abduction...and someone (lord raven) put out an assassinate attempt.

and yes, these persist over server resets AND are a 25% chance each time you step on a trigger that it will happen then and there.
that way you wont just trigger it the first one you step on so sometimes it might be days before it happens.

I think getting assigned a hit by the guild is the better idea for PC assassins. 'Choosing' is a little too personal for a cold, detached killer. One job is the same as another, isn't it?

Maybe just assign one per job, and.. if it takes a week, another assassin is given the job, and then another after another week.. so the longer someone evades the hit, the more assassins will eventually be after them.

Almost wish I had an assassin now..

OK... That explanation makes a lot more sense now. I guess Peri will have to watch her
back a little bit more...

In terms of the acquiring of contract I think that Ummma is right, the job is just a job,
once you would join the guild there should be assignment of tasks rather than a choice.
That for sure also keeps any PvP at a purely business level, at least in terms of the
guild. Maybe even an item (ie a contract) to leave with the dismembered (doesn't every
good assassin do that?) body.

While Peri was plotting the untimely demise of certain errrr.... obstacles , one
additional question occurred.

Why did the assassin watchman say "Raith Mathom sends his regards" if it
was Lord Raven who set the hit on me? Is that just to throw her off the
trail?

if thats the name you saw as a 'Sends his regards..."

well then looks like Raith isn't such a noble paladin after all!!

(Really... I have never actually been in the assassins guild with this toon, Raith, so we were not quite sure what would happen when Borjb and I discussed this action. I did see about 5 or 6 "Someones send you their greetings" messages a few sessions ago, so I'm waiting for the hammer to drop at some point !! I believe that Peri (Borojb) was in Fellhurst and I was in Arbor Falls at the time this occured. I am intriged now so will have to test this out for myself... with a different toon though.)

well when you see 'someone sends their regards' then you have just been 'tagged' for assasination or abduction

when you get hit/killed and see "so and so sends his regards'
then that was the stored name of the person who last put the hit out on you.

why it showed your name? hmmmm
I will have to look deeper into the code...
curious though?
did this happen BEFORE the server update or AFTER?
I dont remember...just wondering if it was because of 'missing data' from old not making it into new
(I just created a blank database for this as I didnt feel like porting over a million 'old' hits..)

I can't recall when I saw the first of at least 4 "Someone sends their regards" messages come across when playing Raith (one right after the other so now I'm wondering what Raith did that warranted such attention !!,) but I do recall asking about it because I had never seen it before. I want to say it was just after the swap over, but it's all a blur now.

I believe the erroneous hit on Borojb blamed on Raith happened the Friday night before the original post on this so that would be the 25th?
